On-Site COVID-19 Testing

The Lab is offering free voluntary COVID-19 testing weekly to asymptomatic employees and affiliates working at Lab locations.

Getting a COVID-19 test is a great way to protect you, your family, and your co-workers by identifying COVID-19 infections early. This allows infected workers to seek health care early, self isolate to protect others, and help identify others who may be infected through contact tracing.

Testing is available at either the Lab’s cafeteria on Mondays and Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or at the Potter Street patio on Wednesdays between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Once your appointment is made, show up for your appointment location, check in with the health care professional, get a quick nasal swab, and receive your results within 48 hours.

The Lab hired a local company, BasisDX to provide COVID-19 testing services. All testing is conducted under strict CLIA standards.

So far, the COVID-19 testing has uncovered three cases of COVID-19, all asymptomatic. Those people were sent home and counseled to talk with their personal health care professional. As of Feb. 22, there have been 946 COVID-19 tests of Lab personnel, with 483 unique employees tested since the on-site testing program began.

Teleworkers who need to be tested should use a community testing site or consult with their personal health care provider.

On-site workers who are ill or have been in close contact with someone who is symptomatic for COVID-19 should not come on site and should contact their personal health care provider for testing and follow-up care.

Employees and Affiliates are eligible for this testing if they have completed the following steps:

    • Received supervisor authorization to be working at a Lab site

    • Have been assigned to, and accepted conditions of, a WPC Activity with the Lab’s COVID-19 controls

    • Completed LBL0012 Training (Working Safely At LBNL During COVID-19 Pandemic)

    • Badged-in in the past 60 days

    • Are asymptomatic

You will need to electronically sign a consent form to schedule your test, which includes granting permission for your results to be shared with public health authorities and with the Lab's Health Services.

Hill Site

Mondays and Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the cafeteria lobby (Building 54)

Potter Street

Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Potter Street patio.

Please park on 5th Street and enter the patio from the sidewalk. If you park in the lot you will need to walk around the building to enter the patio.

  • The test is an anterior nasal swab.

  • The vendor performing the test is Basis Diagnostics, Inc.

  • If you have received an email invitation to obtain a COVID-19 test, you can make an appointment at least one day in advance. Log in with your Lab email and your birthdate. You can toggle using the icons on the top left between scheduling and seeing your results. After you click on "Consent" you can select the date by clicking on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, then selecting the time in the dropdown menu. Click "Submit".
