COVID Cases in the Berkeley Lab Community

The Lab is no longer required to post notices of recent COVID-19 cases as reported to the Lab per California Assembly Bill 685. If an employee has had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 at the Lab, a representative from Health Services will contact them. This page is now archived as of April 26, 2024.
Our highest priority is the health and well-being of our workers, their families, and our communities. The Lab’s COVID-19 protocols are designed to maintain a very low exposure risk for those working on site, taking into account that occasionally, people who are unaware they are infected with COVID-19 will enter a Lab facility.
If you are symptomatic, think you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, test positive for COVID-19, or have supervisory responsibility for someone who may be infected with COVID-19, please contact Health Services immediately at 510-486-6266 for information on the next steps. ALL CALLS TO HEALTH SERVICES ARE CONFIDENTIAL.
Note: The Lab is required to report all known COVID-19 cases to the Department of Energy, no matter if workers are on site or not. Therefore, all COVID-19 cases in the Lab population should be reported to Health Services. Even those individuals teleworking or those who have not been on a Berkeley Lab site in the 14 days prior to the onset of symptoms should report their results to Health Services.
In addition, all are welcome to contact Health Services with questions or concerns. Individual patient care information is kept confidential, and only Health Services staff are informed of any medical concerns. Health Services is mandated to report the number of positive cases to the City of Berkeley Public Health Department and Lab management.

The Lab has committed to transparency about COVID-19 in the Lab community. This overview provides information about COVID-19 cases reported to the Lab while protecting the identity of the affected individuals. If you have questions, please contact Health Services.

Cumulative cases include positive COVID-19 tests reported to Health Services since March 1, 2020.
Recent cases include positive COVID-19 tests in the most recent 14 days reported to Health Services. Recent cases are a subset of the number of cumulative cases.
Summaries of 2023 Individual COVID-19 Cases
Here is a summary of information about each of the COVID-19 cases that have been reported to the Lab. Note that Health Services completes contact tracing whenever possible; people with whom the infected individual came in close contact will have been notified by Health Services and may be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days. If you have not been contacted by Health Services, you were not in close contact with the person as defined by the CDC.
